Graduation Time

My daughter, Paige, had her grade 8 graduation yesterday, so here is the card that I made for her.  Bright and sparkly has always been her thing, so I tried to go as bright and sparkly as possible :o)

Colour Challenge on Heart2Heart

This is a bittersweet post for me!  It's my final challenge on the Heart2Heart Design team... my how 6 months fly by.  It's been a wonderful experience - meeting such a great and talented group of gals, getting to know many more consultants through their blogs, and it has kept me challenged to do my best work.  I won't be disappearing, though - I intend to be a player in the weekly challenges as often as possible.  This week we have a colour challenge:
I decided to use this colour palette to make a set of Thank-you cards for one of my daughter's teachers as an end of the year gift, so I put together 6 different 4"x4" cards and made a matching holder:
I went with predominantly bamboo & barn red with colonial white, and just added touches of dutch blue - mainly through accessories.  Here are some close-ups of the cards:

We have our June guest designer, Jena Devries joining us this week, so check out the blog to see what Jena and the rest of the design team have created to inspire you.  We would love to have you play along with the challenge, just be sure to use some Close To My Heart products in your creation, and link it up to the Heart2Heart blog.  You could win one of the 2 monthly prize packs, or be chosen as one of our monthly Top Ten!  Thanks to everyone for all of your lovely comments and support over the past six months, and an even bigger thank-you to Mary Vogel, who does such a wonderful job with the H2H blog :o)

Supplies used: Cardstock is Barn Red, Bamboo & Colonial White; Inks are Bamboo, Barn Red & Dutch Blue; Stamp sets are Simple Memories, Universal Backgrounds, You're Invited, Card Chatter - thanks, and Gracious Greetings; Indian Corn Blue Waxy Flax; Brads, Spiral Clip, Buttons & Gems are Summer Celebration Mini Medley; - all CTMH!

One of my Curves workout buddies had two knee replacements last week, so we all wanted to send her some get well wishes...  using up a bit of my stash again (yay!).  I almost never use a white background for my cards, yet I love the look when I see others do it.  I've used the Sketchbook Saturday Challenge sketch:

I'm Sew Excited!

I have some wonderful stamp sets with sewing images, so when I saw the "I'm Sew Excited" challenge on the Moxie Fab World blog... I knew that I had to enter!  Nothing like getting it done just under the wire...  Here's what I came up with:
Patterned papers are Cosmo Cricket & 7 Gypsies; Cardstock is Chocolate & Colonial White, CTMH; Stamp sets are Find Your Style & Tailor Made, CTMH; Inks are Chocolate & Sunset; CTMH; Baker's Twine, The Twinery.  CTMH wooden button.

Lets play Bingo!!

This week's Heart2Heart Challenge was so much fun!  We're playing Bingo... below is our Bingo card, and the idea is that to participate in the challenge, you need to use any three items in a line either across, up and down or diagonally:
So for my card, I chose Lace/Brads/Rub-ons to make my Bingo :o)  I love our Newsprint rub-ons, and was determined to finally break them out for this week's challenge, along with lace from our pink collection, and some chocolate brads that I've had for a while.  I roughed up the edges of my cardstock with my scissors, and added some sponging for a bit of a grunge look - but I find it funny that while I feel my project is very distressed, it never seems to show up in photos?  Hopefully a few of the details will show here:
Check out what the rest of the design team has made for you over at the H2H blog, and then work on making your own bingo!  Just use any 3 items shown in a straight line, be sure to use some CTMH products, and link it up directly to your blog post.  You could be selected as one of our monthly Top Ten, or maybe be randomly selected to win one of our June prized packages from our sponsors.  We have Jena Devries playing along as our Guest Designer this week, so stop off to see her creation, too!

All products are CTMH - Cardstock is Kraft, Blush, Bamboo & Colonial White; Inks are Bamboo, Desert Sand & Blush; Stamp sets are Universal Backgrounds, You & Me, & Live Inspired; Newsprint Rub-ons; Lace is the Pink Collection; Chocolate brads.

Play Date Cafe Challenge #86

This card makes me SO happy!  It's not my best card (by a long shot), or the fanciest... it's actually kind of plain, and average.  But - everything I used to make this card is at least 2 or 3 years old... so I'm using up my stash, and that makes me SO happy!  It's easy to make projects with all of your newest goodies, but this hobby does tend to make the supplies pile up, and digging out the old stuff is much less inspiring.  This week's Play Date Cafe colours fit these papers perfectly:
Patterned papers are Best Friends Forever; Cardstock is Twilight & Colonial White; Stamp set is A Little Everything; Inks are Hollyhock & Sunset; Summer & Fall buttons - all CTMH.

Stamped backgrounds on Heart2Heart

This week we are focussing on creating stamped backgrounds for Dad!  With Father's Day around the corner, it's a great time to get your cards going, and a stamped background works wonderfully for guy cards.  CTMH has so many wonderful stamp sets that work perfectly to create a custom background for your father, brother, hubby or son - whoever the special guys in your life are.  Mary has a couple of tutorial ideas for you on the Heart2Heart Challenge blog of how to do a random stamped background - and I have a few pictures to explain what I've done, too - just scroll down.  I like to do "controlled random stamping" (which I think is an oxymoron?), which basically means I'm a stamping control freak, who likes to plan things out... not a lot of random anything happening :o)  Here's what I came up with for my Dad:
My sisters will crack up when they see this, because "Jumper" and "Muscleman" have special meaning in regards to my Dad, but basically I've used all the names that he's called by us.  I've used seven different alphabet sets, and positioned them all in different directions so that they look randomly placed, like a sheet of wrapping paper would be (even though mine is planned out carefully!).  Only "Dad" is done in sunset to stand out a little bit from the background.  Here's how I started:
I stamped my sunset Dad first, so that it would be in the right location.  Then I worked outward from there, turning my stamps as I went, so that I filled in spaces (if I did this randomly, I would've ended up with blank spaces.  My controlling tendancies wanted them all filled!).
Here's what my stamping desk looked like with all of my words spelled out.  You'll notice that my "s" in muscleman wasn't stamping, and there's the beauty of clear stamps - I put the s on it's own block and was able to go back and add it in afterwards.  We look forward to seeing what you've come up with - just link up your project to the Heart2Heart blog, and you may win of our monthly sponsor prizes, or be selected in our monthly Top Ten.  You must use some CTMH products in your project to be eligible for prizes.  Check out what the design team has come up with - you'll be sure to be inspired!

Supplies used: Outdoor denim, Sunset & Colonial white cardstock; Desert Sand & Sunset inks; Basic button collection; Atomic, The Works, Charm, Sans Small, Classic, Whimsy & a promo alphabets; - all CTMH.  Baker's Twine from The Twinery.

A Vibrant 50th Birthday

I have a friend who loved a card that I made a few months back... and asked me to make something similar in vibrant colours for a friend who was turning 50.  I reoriented it to be a sideways card due to the large sentiment, and made it about as vibrant as is humanly possible:

All product is CTMH: Cardstock is Hydrangea, Watermelon & Ocean (all retired), Black, Pear & White Daisy; Ink is Pear; Stamp set is Gracious Greetings.  Opaque pearls.  Nestabilities die.

Heart2Heart Wedding Challenge

It's wedding week on the Heart2Heart Challenges Blog... and the design team has some wonderful inspiration for you!  We have a new guest designer playing with us this month, the talented Jena DeVries, so be sure to see what she has to show us this week.  If you play in the month of June, you have a chance to win one of two prize packs given out by Michelle Owen and Romaine Rancine, and you may be selected as one of our monthly Top Ten.  Just link up your project to the H2H blog, and be sure to use some CTMH product in your project.  For my wedding card, I went mostly white (not my usual thing!), kept the colours soft, and added a bit of bling:
I masked off the outside 3/8" around the card, and then stamped the Wings wotg background stamp in Versamark and then heat embossed it with some sparkly white embossing powder that I've had kicking around forever (it's actually called "Bridal!") - this pic doesn't show the irridescent sparkle of the embossing, so I'll make sure to add another one that does.  I used 2 different pinks for the flowers...and now that I think of it, this card reminds me a lot of my own wedding dress.  I wore a very pale pink gown, and made dozens of silk flowers in different shades of pink to sew onto it, along with pale green leaves!

Stamp sets are Wings, You're Invited & Our Wedding Day; Inks are Versamark, Grey Wool & Sweet Leaf; Cardstock is White Daisy, Baby Pink, Blush & Sweet Leaf; Opaque Pearls; - all CTMH. Nestabilities die. Bridal Embossing powder from Personal Stamp Exchange.

I've been MIA - here's why!

I'm having that slightly euphoric feeling of having just completed a big job....I volunteered to design and make the invitations for my daughter's grade 8 graduation, that will be sent home to the families, teachers etc.  They chose a Hollywood theme for grad, so I decided to make a little clapper board for the invitation.  The base is actually a pocket, so that when they lift up the top, they'll pull out a piece of white cardstock with all the details:
It's not often that I make a card with no stamping!  Thank goodness the front and insides were printed and colour copied onto cardstock, and I found these cute little pewter brads at Michaels that look just like screws.  The killer was cutting and gluing the 14pcs that make up each card (and yes, I knew what I was in for when I designed it!)  Here's what 95 invitations looks like:
